Improve performance by lowering resolution

Postby zulu » Tue May 18, 2010 8:18 am

Hi,
I just wanted to share one tweak I did to my Revo. I use it with Win7 MCE and play HD recordings from broadcast channels recorded through HDhomerun tuners. I also use Netflix, Hulu and point to ripped DVDs. As I was implementing all the tweaks I would hit a performance hiccup time after time. So I decided to lower the resolution instead of the full 1080P to 720P and I left it there. I can notice the system is more responsive and I can't choke it easily. None of my home users noticed the change on our 55" HDTV being viewed from more than 15' distance. Hope this helps someone..

Nice, I might actually try adjusting to 720p since most tv is 720p and I don't have much 1080p content. :)

I was having the same problem as zulu and lowering the resolution helped with the performance. Hulu works great now.

Simply right click on desktop and adjust the resolution of windows 7.

Just wanted to say thank you for this tip! It's worked well for me, now it's semi useable!

FYI another tip I came across was running Aero mode and not basic mode, for some reason the GPU acceleration only comes on with Aero and not with basic mode! I can't figure this out and it is quite a pain though because fullscreen starts to choke when there's no more Aero shown.
